MISS DELLA STREET HELLO BEAUTIFUL, Those words were heard in just about every episode. Paul delivered them every time he’d walk into Perry’s office. As a matter of fact, Della’s beauty was commented on numerous occasions. Not just Paul, but Lt. Tragg adored her, even Burger passed comment on how pretty she was looking. You can even though in a client or someone else involved in the case. The story on Della is her family, losses when the Stock Market crashed. To help out she becomes a secretary. By the time WW II is over, she’s become very good at her craft. Della’s soft spot for those not as well off, is seen though out every episode. The young innocent women, the young good looking hard luck man, or the elderly women and men. Her softness can not be confused as a push over, Della is always on her game. As is the lady who played this amazing character in all TV history. Let’s meet Barbara Bernice Hale Born 4/18/1922 in DeKalb Ill. Died 1/26/2017 in Sherman Oaks Ca. Married once 3 kids, Actor William Katt ( Americas Greatest Hero ) Her film- work includes 1943 Gildersleeve on Broadway played a girl at a party 1st film, 1943 Higher and Higher Katherine Keating, 1944 The Falcon Out West Marion Colby, 1944 The Falcon in Hollywood Peggy Callahan, 1945 West of the Pecos Rill Lambeth, 1951 Lorna Donne lead role Lorna Donne, 1956 7Th Cavalry Martha Kellogg, 1970 Airport Sarah Demerest, 1975 The Giant Spider Invasion Dr. Jenny Longer. A few TV spots, Lassie- Sarah Caldwell – Lassie and the Water Bottles, Ironside- Marsha Connell- Murder Impromptu, Adam-12- with her husband Bill Williams, Bonnie Jessup- Pick Up. Award after Award she was an amazing talent. The main question about the show was Perry and Della’s relationship. This question is up for grabs, it’s basically the viewers own thoughts, how they want it. It’s kinda written that way, open ended. No reference is ever made. Occasionally there may be something said that could be taken a few ways. We know very little about anyone’s background on this show. Not typical on shows then or now, where he or she came from, what happen in their past, it’s more important it seems to the viewer of today, back in the TV hey days of the 50′ into the 60’s it was not that big a deal.We gain knowledge of the past, though out the shows run. But very little about Della and Perry’s past. What I think is they just live off each others personality, habits, their outlook of life at the time, helping the underdog, the connection is strong what ever it may be.We will return with Part VI of The Perry Mason Story, next up probably my favorite on the show Paul Drake, William Hopper.
