He is one of my favorite all time cop & character on any TV show today or yesterday. His character is really strong, proud, rough, tough, by the book most of the time, he has bent the rules a few times, helping Perry solve the case. After all justice is what everyone is working for. Tragg does get pissed off more than anyone on the show. Burger is just always frustrated with the way things go. However Tragg shows his emotion, and he doesn’t hold back. On more than one occasion Lt. Tragg has told Paul, if he keeps fucking around and he will get his P.I. License taken away, threatening to have him in jail if doesn’t cooperate. He’s wanted to tell Perry on plenty occasions basically, to go fuck himself! Lt. Tragg doesn’t dig the way Mason goes about his solving the case. It’s mostly frustrates both Burger & Lt. Tragg to no end, thinking this is the one we got him. One thing about Lt. Tragg he does respect Perry as Perry respects Lt. Tragg. We see this in episode The Case of the Moth Eaten Mink. This one involves the murder of a cop years before. It’s a great episode and the ending has a great twist, which brings Lt. Tragg and Perry close, very emotional scene. So who is Lt. Tragg. Ray Bidwell Collins Born 12/10/1889 in Sacramento Ca. Died 7/11/1965 at 75 years old. He was married 2 times and had 2 kids. He began preforming onstage at age 14, compiling over 900 roles in his theater days. His films include 1930 Scotch Love, 1932 Murder in the Pullman, 1941 Citizen Kane he played Jim W Getty, 1942 The Magnificent Ambersons he played Jack Amberson, 1943 Crime Doctor he played Dr. John Carey, 1944 Barbary Coast Gent he played Johnny Adair, 1946 The Best Years of Our Lives he played Mr. Milton, 1955 The Desperate Hours he played Sheriff Masters. Holy shit this man worked, no wonder he was such an amazing actor. In 1938 on 10/30/1938 The Mercury Theater, Orson Wells, Agnes Moorehead, Joseph Cotton, George Coulouris, Arlene Francis and many more players, including our friend here Collins. They pulled off to this day, one of the greatest hoaxes ever. War of the Worlds was broadcasted that night to a shocked, scared, and panicked radio audience. It was so good no one knew what the fuck was going on. Fantastic writing and acting check into it, we will do a show on it for sure. 1964 was Ray’s toughest year, cancer was just killing him. He was forced to leave the show. So on 1/16/1964 Lt. Tragg had his last case, for health he was told to leave. Burr and Patrick as well as Gardner told the Network to keep his name in the opening credits. This for a few reasons, one by keeping his name in the credits, he was able to keep his SAG benefits. As well everyone knew he watched every week, help keep his sprits up. They were a very tight family after all. There many stories like this one, and should be told.
