2,4,5,7,9,11,13. That was it the NY/NJ TV Networks. These were our choices when it came to TV channels, as a kid growing up in the late 60’s into the 70’s. Channel 2 was CBS. It carried some of TV’s greatest shows and Stars. History made on a weekly basis. People weren’t as soft as today. People’ heads would explode if they only knew. With shows like All In The Family, The Jeffersons, Maude, Good Times. All In The Family, which was based off the BBC’s long time running show, Till Death Due Us Part. This show ran for 7 years. It stared Warren Mitchel, Daisy Sander, Una Stubbs, Patricia Lawler, Abraham Basalinsky, Anthony George Booth. And the man behind it, Johnny Speight.
The BBC also gave us Monty Python’s Flying Circus, and Step Toe & Son, we turned it into Sanford & Son. Thanks Mates. The other major networks had their share as well. Everybody was trying to out write the other. Actors and Actress step up there roles, the characters became apart of your family. It was a time when everyone wanted to know, “Who shot JR” . Channel 4 NBC, had an incredible line up on Sunday Night. Included Mutual of Omaha’s Wild Kingdom, ( poor Steve) and The Wonderful World of Disney. These 2 were very strong in the ratings and great tv. NBC also hit ya with the Sunday Night Mystery, featuring Columbo, McMillan & Wife, McCloud. So they were well prepared for ratings. Channel 5 was Cartoons and Variety Shows, it was a fun Station. Flintstones, Spiderman, they also ran Sci-Fi and B- Horror movies. It’s late night was really kool with shows like Mary Hartman, Mary Hartman, and Fernwood Tonight. Channel 7 was a monster of endless shows. The 4:30 Movie was always a great classic, they had theme weeks. War movie week, and Monster movie week were my favorites. Soap was there big time ratings getter, this show was way, way, ahead of its time for sure. Roots made its breakthrough debut on Channel 7. WOR Channel 9. Wow just wow. I think I’ll just put this one to the side, and I’ll do a future article just on Channel 9. The station was out of Secaucus NJ. Channel 11 WPIX, was another of those Stations. The New York Yankees Station, Movies, Abbott & Costello. Endless entertainment for all. Then there was Channel 13, the Public Broadcasting Station. Good ole PBS gave us Sesame Street, The Electric Co. ( the star of this Kids educational show was, Bill Cosby) and so many other really kool shows. Oh by the way Sunday night at midnight was Monty Pythons Flying Circus. It also ran full replays of Arsenal, Manchester City, and Liverpool soccer games. 70’s tv was the greatest tv ever. I’ll include the shows of the 60′ & 50’s being that is what was being shown. The 40’s & 30’s were special treats. Well let’s move on to the subject at hand, Perry Mason. Here are a few of the cars from the show. Which used Ford & GM. This is when cars were fucking cars. Beautifully crafted vehicles, especially the Caddys. Coming up in Part 3. We meet the keys, the big 5, Perry, Della, Paul, Lt.Tragg & D.A. Burger. .
