The writing on this show is flawless, sorry it’s up there with the greatest shows of all – time this show can hang with the best. Maybe Law and Order comes close, but not that close. Perry never lets any clue to what he is thinking, just puts his thought and feeling about the case in motion with assignments, usually it’s ” Della, get Paul on the Phone”. You just never know on this show what’s about to happen next, 271 episodes of cliff hanger after cliff hanger, clue after clue, dead end after dead end, suspect after suspect, Burger and Lt. Tragg think this is the case we got’em until that Perry Mason Moment. Which is a real thing and is recognized in real Courtrooms, and is referred to as just that a ‘Perry Mason Moment’. The O.J. trial had its share. His tactics drive Burger and Lt’ Tragg right to Clay’s Bar and Cafe. The frustration levels are enough for these 2 to just explode. However both Burger and Lt. Tragg have respect for Perry, not agreeing with how he goes about it, and doesn’t break the law it’s all good. Paul, Perry and even Della go right to edge but just don’t cross it. They manage to stay on the legal side, sometimes it maybe questionable but not enough to disbar or put in prison. Perry treats each case in delicate fashion, examining the smallest of clues. Dissecting all those involved, their personality, their style. His ability to see through lies and other deceptions. Thinking outside the box is Perry’s expertise, and leads to uncovering the real culprit and proving who the innocent are. Burger may loose to Perry all the time, but he is handed the easiest of convictions. Lt. Tragg and Burger they get pissed beyond when the case breaks right in front of them. But then move on, knowing all they want is justice. Whatever Perry may do to get a case resolved, it might be shirting the law, but hell what’s the problem they got the guilty one, and that’s Justice.
